That's me on the left. You can't miss me. I'm the one with the huge hair. Must have been about 1985. The snazzy Norwegian outfit I'm wearing... courtesy of my Grandmother, to the right. If memory serves, we were attending a Syttende Mai celebration, also known as Norwegian Constitution Day, held on May 17th. My Grandparents were awarded a key to the city that came complete with decorative rosemaling, in layman's terms... Norwegian folk art painting.
My Grandmother was wearing an impeccably embroidered outfit, which speaks to the value she placed on purchasing well-crafted items. When she purchased something, it was for life. I doubt she had a lick of rayon or acetate in her closet.
My Grandfather, on the right, was recognized throughout the community for his work in social service. It was out of that service, and his stories, that I came to truly appreciate what we had as a family, and what I currently have - two beautiful, healthy kids, a supportive husband, and an extended family that I can count on to help out no matter what the ask.
When choosing an organization with which to align Dirty Knees Soap Co., we were looking for three things: 1) an organization within the United States, 2) an organization that used their funds wisely, and 3) an organization that would allow us to give back by providing a level of comfort and hope to children. We found what we were looking for in My Stuff Bags Foundation.
My Stuff Bags Foundation addresses the needs of children who are rescued from abuse, neglect, or other volatile situations. Sadly, the children often flee with nothing but the clothes on their back. My Stuff Bags gives them something to hold onto - something of their own. Toys, books, school supplies, clothing, personal toiletries, a stuffed animal, and blanket are some of the items they receive in a bright blue duffel bag.
Every purchase made at Dirty Knees Soap Co. helps to support a quarterly donation of specially made "My Stuff Suds" body wash for inclusion in the famous blue bags.

Ah... summer. A time to relax and enjoy the simple things. **Cue obnoxious record needle scratch as the pleasant music in your head comes to an abrupt halt.** SIMPLE? SUMMER?!? Nonsense.
